I was looking forward to this book as it focuses on a fascinating yet tragic time in history: WWII, the rise of the resistance movement, and the impact on human nature. This book honestly read like a cliff notes version of what could have been a great story. The author moved through the sections much too fast without taking the time to build the characters and their surroundings. As a result I never felt a connection to the subjects even though some of them certainly went through horrific moments. This story deserved to be developed much more slowly to make for a great read.

For a first time author, this novel moves very well and describes concisely a complicated subject- French politics in World War Two. It is a quick, fun read- one I'd highly recommend.
